아일랜드 더블린에 위치한 미술관으로 1854년 설립되었으며, 일반에게 공개된 것은 10년 후인 1864년이라고 합니다. 개관 당시 소장하고 있던 작품은 회화 112점에 불과했다고 합니다.

현재는 약 14,000점의 예술 작품을 소장하고 있습니다. 이 중 유화(oil painting) 2,500점, 소묘(drawing) 5,000점, 판화(print) 5,000점 등이 있으며, 그 외에 조각, 가구 등도 있습니다. 

아일랜드 및 유럽의 후기 인상주의 화가의 작품을 주로 소장 및 전시하고 있으며, 이탈리아 바로크(Italian Baroque) 및 네덜란드 황금기(Dutch Golden Age) 회화 작품도 유명합니다.
