영어명 튜베로즈(tuberose)는 라틴어 tuberosa에서 왔으며 원형의 돌기로 덮힌(tuberous), 부어오른(swollen) 등의 뜻이라고 합니다.

저녁에 향기를 발산하기 때문에 대만에서는 월하향(月下香)이라 부르며, 결혼식의 부케에도 잘 이용되고 있답니다.
