꽃말: 사랑스러움(adorablility, charming)

종소명인 foetida는 라틴어로 나쁜 냄새가 난다(having a bad smell)는 뜻입니다. 꽃에서 아마인유(linseed oil)를 끓일 때와 유사한 역겨운 냄새가 나기 때문이라고 하는데, 사람에 따라 향기가 그렇게 나쁘지 않다고 여기기도 합니다.

아시아와 유럽의 경계인 동유럽 조지아의 코카서스 산맥의 고원지대에 자생하던 야생 장미로서 유럽 자생장미에는 없던 노란색 꽃이 핍니다.
