월터 아트 뮤지엄

월터 미술관

메릴랜드(Maryland) 주 볼티모어(Baltimore)에 있는 미술관입니다.

사업가이자 수집가였던 William Thompson Walters(1819–1894)의 소장품을 주축으로 하여 아들인 Henry Walters(1848–1931)의 주도로 1934년에 설립 및 개관하였습니다. 원래 이름은 월터 아트 갤러리(The Walters Art Gallery)였는데, 외부 관람객이 늘어나며 2000년에 현재 이름인 월터 아트 뮤지엄으로 바꾸었다고 합니다. 현지에서는 줄여서 더 월터스(The Walters)로 부른다고 합니다.

2012년에는 2만점 가까운 작품들을 Wikimedia Commons와 협력하여 인터넷을 통해 볼 수 있도로 하였습니다.

소장 및 전시하고 있는 작품들은 고대 이집트·로마·그리스, 고대 중남미, 아시아, 이슬람, 중세 유럽, 르네상스·바로크·18세기 유럽, 19세기 유럽 등 다양합니다.
