Maryhill Museum of Art, Maryhill, Washington

메리힐 미술관은 미국 워싱톤(Washington) 주 Maryhill 근처에 있는 미술관으로 규모는 작지만(small), 다양한 작품(eclectic collection)을 소장하고 있습니다.

건물은 혼블로어 앤 마샬(Hornblower and Marshall)의 설계로 지어졌으며, 원래는 기업가였던 사무엘 힐(Samuel Hill, 1857-1931)이 저택(mansion)으로 사용할 목적으로 지었다고 합니다. Maryhill은 사무엘 힐의 아내 이름을 따서 붙여진 이름이라고 하네요.

미술관은 1940년 힐의 생일날 개관하였습니다.

소장품으로는 조각작품 중에는 칼레의 시민(The Burghers of Calais), 생각하는 사람(The Thinker), 지옥의 문(The Gates of Hell) 등 로댕(Auguste Rodin)의 작품이 유명합니다.

유럽과 미국의 회화작품 중에는 윌리엄 맥그리거 팩스턴(William McGregor Paxton), 로버트 헤일 아이브스 갬멜(R. H. Ives Gammell), 윌리엄 스탠리 헤이절타인(William Stanley Haseltine), 프레데릭 레이튼(Frederic Leighton, 1st Baron Leighton), 에드윈 블래시필드(Edwin Blashfield) 등의 작품이 주목할 만합니다.

또한, 미술관 동쪽 끝에 있는 메리힐 스톤헨지(Maryhill Stonehenge)로도 알려져 있습니다. 세계1차대전 희생자들을 기념하기 위해 만든 이곳은 영국의 스톤헨지를 본따 만든 콘크리트 구조물입니다.
