시카고 아트 인스티튜트

시카고 아트 인스티튜트(Art Institute of Chicago, US-IL)는 미국 일리노이주 시카고의 Grant Park에 위치한 미술학교 겸 미술관입니다.

1879년 설립된 이곳은 미국에서 가장 오래되고, 가장 큰 미술관 중 하나입니다. 2009년 확장 후 규모로는 뉴욕의 메트로폴리탄 미술관(Metropolitan Museum of Art) 다음으로 미국에서 2번째로 큰 미술관이라고 합니다.

고대부터 현대까지 5,000년 이상의 기간에 걸친 미국, 유럽, 아시아, 아프리카 등 전세계에서 수집한 30만점 이상의 작품이 소장되어 있습니다. 

작품들 중에는 미국 화가들의 작품인 에드워드 호퍼(Edward Hopper, 1882~1967)의 밤을 지새우는 사람들(Nighthawks), 그랜트 우드(Grant Wood, 1891~1942)의 아메리칸 고딕(American Gothic) 등과 유럽 회가들의 작품인 귀스타브 카유보트(Gustave Caillebotte, 1848~1894)의 파리의 거리, 비오는 날(Rue de Paris, temps de pluie), 반 고흐(Vincent van Gogh, 1853-18918의 자회상(Self-Portrait), 조르주 쇠라(Georges Seurat, 1859~1891)의 그랑드 자트 섬의 일요일 오후(A Sunday on La Grande Jatte), 파블로 피카소(Pablo Picasso, 1881~1973)의 기타치는 눈 먼 노인(The Old Guitarist) 등 유명 작품들(iconic works)도 포함되어 있습니다.
