풍경화를 그릴 때에는 클림트도 인상주의 화가들처럼 직접 야외에서 그림을 그렸는데, 전체 작업을 다 야외에서 한 것은 아니며, 마무리 작업은 작업실에 들어와서 했다고 합니다. 특히, 그는 매년 여름 방문했던 아터제(Attersee) 호수에서 많은 풍경화를 제작하였습니다.
