미술관 이름 자체에서 알 수 있듯이 고흐 관련 세계 최대 규모의 작품을 소장하고 있는 미술관입니다. 

고흐 작품 외에도 고흐와 관련되거나 고흐와 동시대의 작품들도 소장 및 전시하고 있습니다.

몽마주르가 보이는 크로 들판의 추수(Harvest at La Crau, with Montmajour in the Background) 또는 추수(The harvest)라고 불리는 이 작품은 고흐가 1888년 6월에 그린 그림입니다.

이때는 고흐가 남프랑스 프로방스 지방의 해안 마을 생트마리드라메르(Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer)를 방문했다가 아를로 돌아온 직후이며, 아를의 노란 집에서 고갱과 공동체 생활을 기다리던 시기입니다.

미술관은 소장하고 있는 작품의 양도 중요하지만, 어떤 작품을 소장하고 있냐도 중요합니다. 

수많은 고흐의 작품 중에서도 걸작으로 손꼽히는 까마귀가 나는 밀밭(Wheatfield with Crows, 1890)은 이 한 점만으로도 사람들이 이곳을 찾는 가치가 있다고 생각하게 만드는 작품입니다.
