프랑스 파리의 르 프로코프는 1686년부터 영업을 해오고 있어서, 계속 운영 중인 카페로는 파리에서 가장 오래된 카페(the oldest café of Paris in continuous operation)라고 합니다. 혹자는 세계 최초의 카페라고도 부릅니다. 18세기와 19세기에 많은 예술가와 문학가들이 찾았습니다.

1872년부터 1920년까지는 영업을 중단했었기 때문에 엄밀히 말하면 계속 운영 중인(continuous operation) 카페가 아니라는 지적도 있지만, 그게 중요하지는 않다고 생각합니다.

음식 중에는 해산물 요리인 르 플라토 드 프뤼 드 메르(Le Plateau de Fruits de Mer)가 인기가 있습니다.
