꽃말: 다시 만날 날까지(until we meet again)

속명(屬名) Ranunculus는 작은 개구리(little frog)를 뜻하는 라틴어 rana에서 따왔습니다. 물가를 좋아하는 생육특성에서 얻어진 이름이라고 하네요.

미나리아재비속(Ranunculus)은 총칭하여 영어로 buttercup이라고 하는데, 꽃이 노랗다 보니 버터를 얻을 수 있는 식물이라는 잘못된 믿음에서 전해졌을 것으로 추정됩니다. 사실 버터를 얻을 수 있기는 커녕 가축들에게 유독한 성분이 있기도 합니다.

Ranunculus pedatifidus은 birdfoot buttercup이라고도 불리는데 새의 발(bird's foot)과 관련된 이름이 있는 식물들은 그 외에도 여러종류가 이습니다.

검찰

검찰

가본 적은 없고, 앞으로도 그런 일이 없기를 바라는데... 피의자가 아니라 참고인으로 검찰을 갔다 온 사람들도 검찰의 위압감과 권위를 이야기한다. 심지어 검사를 만나기도 전에 건물 들어서는 순간부터 느껴졌다며.

하물며 피의자 신분으로 불려갔던 사람들은 훨씬 더 할 거다.

하지만, 살인을 하고 살인 이후의 행동 역시 냉혹하기까지 했던 고유정이 검사가 무서워서 말을 못하겠다고 진술을 거부하기도 하고, 권력자나 그 주변 사람들이 검사가 무서워서 거짓진술을 했다며 진술을 번복하는 모습에서는 검사를 무서워한다기 보다 비꼬거나 비웃는 건 아닌가라는 생각도 든다.

정작 정말로 검사를 무서워하는 사람들은 후환이 두려워 그렇게 대놓고 무섭다는 말도 못할테니.

그런 말을 할 수 있다는 건 검사를 덜 무서워하거나, 변호사가 시켰거나, 검찰 밖에 더 무서운 사람들이 있거나 셋 중 하나 아닐까?

약자들은 무서워서 무섭다는 말도 못할테니.

우습게 보는 것까지는 아니더라도 좀 덜 무서워 하는 사람들이 무섭다며 진술을 거부하거나 무서워서 그랬다며 진술을 번복할 수 있을 것이다.

검찰이 안 무섭거나, 다 잘하고 있댜는 건 아니다. 범죄자가 아니고, 피의자가 아니더라도 참고인으로도 가고 싶지 않은 곳인게 현실이다. 그 사실만으로도 개혁이 필요한 이유가 될 수 있다.

하지만, 검찰이라는 무서운 칼날이 정권의 마음대로 휘둘려지면 더 무서운 결과를 낳을 수 있기에 개혁을 빙자한 정권의 길들이기는 더 위험해 보인다.

개혁

개혁

서로 협력해 개혁하라는 문재인 대통령의 말을 잘라먹고,, 마치 그것이 신호라도 되는 듯 윤석열 검찰총장을 맹공하는 추미애 장관. 검사장들의 의견도 무시하며, 조국 전 장관, 최강욱 열린민주당 대표, 황운하 의원 등 피의자들의 지원사격이 이어진다.

사실 인간이니 속으로는 추미애 장관이 어서 빨리 검찰을 장악하고 자신의 사건들을 무혐의 처리해 주기를 바라는 것은 당연할지 모른다.

하지만, 추미애 장관의 공격이 시작되자 신나서 기타치더니, 더 나가 추미애 장관을 두둔하는 목소리를 높이는 것은 모습이 영 좋아보이지 않고, 검찰개혁에 대한 순수성도 보이지 않는다.

연일 목소리를 높이는 조국 전장관의 발언은 이번에 추미애 장관이 밀리면 유죄가 된다는 다급함이 있는 것 같기도 하고.

누구는 무죄라는 것을 정해놓고, 그에 반하면 청산해야 할 적폐라는 주장과 피의자의 큰 소리. 그들은 과연 무엇을 위한, 누구를 위한 개혁을 내세우는 걸까?

핀셋규제

핀셋규제

현 정부의 부동산 정책에서 빠지지 않는 핀셋규제. 핀셋규제라는 표현을 안 쓸 뿐 교육정책이나 검찰개혁 비슷한 방식이다.

좋게 말하면 부작용을 최소화하고 문제되는 부분만 제거하겠다는 것이지만, 문제를 더 복잡하게 만들고 있고 규제의 갯수만 늘어나고 있다.

기본적으로 사람과 사람이 부딫히는 일들은 수학이나 과학문제처럼 독립되어 있지 않기때문이다.

사람들이 21번째니, 22번째니 하는 부동산 대책이 그 예이다. 정부 공식 홈페이지에는 공식 정책은 10번이었다고 하고, 김현미 국토교통부 장관은 한술 더 떠 4번째 대책이었다고 한다. 많은 게 안 좋다고들 하니 숫자를 줄인 모양인데, 그렇다고 대책이 줄어든 건 아니고 오히려 정책과 대책의 투명성이 의심스럽다.

그러나 더 큰 문제는 핀셋규제가 자기편은 피해가는 용도로 사용되는 듯 보인다는 것이다.

나라나 국민이 아닌 자기 사람을 위한 규제나 개혁.

나와 내편은 무조건 옳고, 다른 사람들은 잘못을 하니 다른 사람들만 콕 찍어서 하겠다는 규제와 개혁.

규제와 개혁마저 공정하게 적용되기를 원치 않는 그들이기에 공정성 이슈를 던진 인국공 사태의 본질을 깨닫지 못하는 건 당연한 일일지 모른다.

해바라기라고 하면 일년생인 해바라기(Helianthus annuus)만을 특정하거나, 해바라기속에 속하는 다른 여러해살이풀을 포함하여 말하기도 합니다.

해바라기란 이름은 꽃이 항상 해를 향한다는 의미의 중국 이름인 향일규(向日葵)를 번역한 것이며, 해를 따라 도는 것으로 오인한 데서 붙여진 이름이라고 합니다.

해바라기의 꽃은 태양이 있는 방향으로 향하는 성질인 굴광성(屈光性)이 있기는 합니다. 하지만, 해바라기는 어린 시기에만 햇빛을 따라서 동서로 움직이고, 꽃이 피고 나면 줄기가 굵어져서 몸을 돌리는 일은 없다고 합니다.

영어의 sunflower는 속명 헬리안투스(Helianthus)를 번역한 것이라고 합니다.

□ 전설, 신화

그리스 신화와 연관된 이야기들이 있습니다만, 해바라기는 16세기에 아메리카에서 유럽으로 처음 들어온 꽃이므로 신화에 등장할 수는 없습니다. 나중에 만들어지거나, 다른 꽃이 해바라기로 이야기가 변형된 걸로 보입니다.

● 헬리오스의 연인, 클리티아(Clytia, Clytie, Κλυτία, Κλυτίη)

그리스 신화에 나오는 님페인 클리티아는 오케아노스와 테티스 사이에서 태어난 오케아니데스 자매 중 하나로 태양신 헬리오스(Helios, Ἥλιος)의 연인이었습니다. 헬리오스가 페르시아 왕 오르카모스와 에우리노메의 딸 레우코토에를 사랑하게 되자 이를 질투심에 이 사실을 레우코토에의 아버지 오르카모스 왕에게 고자질합니다. 오르카모스는 이를 가문의 치욕으로 여겨 딸을 산 채로 매장하여 죽이죠. 헬리오스는 레우코토에의 죽음을 슬퍼하며 그녀가 매장된 곳에 암브로시아를 뿌렸다. 그러자 그 자리에서 유향나무가 자라나더니 향기로운 냄새를 풍겼다고 합니다. 한편, 레우코토에가 그렇게 죽은 뒤 헬리오스의 마음은 클리티아에게서 더욱 멀어졌습니다. 상심한 클리티아는 옷도 안 걸치고 머리도 풀어헤친 채 땅바닥에 누워 먹지도 마시지도 않고 태양만 바라보며 자신의 불행을 한탄했죠. 그렇게 아흐레가 지나자 그녀의 사지가 땅바닥에 들러붙더니 태양만 바라보던 그녀의 얼굴이 꽃으로 변했답니다. 꽃으로 변한 클리티아는 여전히 태양이 움직이는 쪽으로만 향했습니다. 혹자는 이 꽃이 태양을 따라다닌다고 하여서 해바라기라고 하나, 이 꽃은 클리티아가 변신한 꽃은 향수초의 일종인 헬리오트로피움(heliotropium)일 거라고 합니다. 헬리오는 태양을 뜻하고 트로피움은 향한다는 뜻으로 태양을 향하는 꽃이라는 의미라고 합니다.

그리스 신화에서 태양신으로서 헬리오스의 지위는 후대로 가면서 점점 약해지다가 마침내는 아폴론과 혼동되게 됩니다. 아래 이야기는 헬리오스와 클리티아 이야기의 변형된 형태로 보여집니다.

그리스 어느 연못에 바다의 신의 딸 두 자매가 살았습니다. 그들에게는 해진 후부터 동틀 때까지만 연못 위에서 놀 수 있다는 규율이 있었죠. 그러나 그 규율을 지키지 못하고 동이 트고 태양의 신 아폴로가 빛을 발하면서 그 황홀한 빛에 두 자매는 넋을 잃었습니다. 두 자매는 아폴로의 사랑을 차지하려고 싸우기 시작했다고 합니다. 언니는 동생이 규율을 어겼다고 말해 동생이 옥에 갇히게 됩니다. 이후 언니는 아폴로의 사랑을 독차지하려 하였으나 그녀가 동생을 모함했다는 것을 안 아폴로는 그녀의 마음을 외면합니다. 그녀는 며칠간 아폴로의 사랑을 애원했지만 그 뜻을 이루지 못한 채 발이 땅에 뿌리박혀 꽃으로 변했는데 그 꽃이 바로 해바라기라고 합니다.

더피자사운즈, 노들섬

더피자사운즈, 노들섬

노들섬에서 식당을 가기에는 매우 제한적입니다. 카페를 제외하면, 마녀김밥과 더피자사운즈가 있습니다.

마녀김밥의 김밥이나 더피자사운즈의 피자와 맥주는 테이크아웃해서 한강을 보며 야외에서 먹기 좋은 메뉴이죠.

하지만, 우리는 피자를 먹으러 간 것은 아니고 파스타를 먹었습니다.

새우와 베이컨이 든 핑크파스타와 묵은지와 베이컨이 들어간 묵은지베이컨파스타.

비슷한 듯 다른 두 파스타는 양이 제법 많았습니다. 생각보다 맛도 괜찮았고요.

다만, 전망값 때문인지 가격이 좀 있으며, 메뉴판이 불친절합니다.

라벤더라고 하면, 라벤더속에 속하는 식물들을 말합니다.

라벤더라는 이름은 씻다, 목욕하다는 뜻의 라틴어 lavo 또는 lavare에서 연유되었으며, 로마 사람들이 목욕이나 세탁시에 라벤더를 물에 넣는 것을 좋아했기 때문이라고 합니다.

향기는 마음을 진정시켜 편안하게 하는 효과가 있으며, 향유는 향수와 화장품의 원료로 사용하고 요리의 향료로 사용합니다.

잉글리시 라벤더(Lavandula angustifolia)은 가장 일반적으로 알려진 라벤더로서 주로 그 잎을 차로 즐기며, 다른 프렌치 라벤더 종과 같이 기분 전환에 효과가 높은 것으로 알려져 있습니다. 홍차에 섞어도 풍미가 좋고 일상적으로 마시는 차로도 자주 쓰입니다. 또한 초콜릿, 케이크와 같이 즐기면 잘 어울린다. 그 외에 아로마테라피에도 주로 사용됩니다.

독독폭폭

독독폭폭

일반적으로 기차는 칙칙폭폭 거리며 간다고 한다. 하지만, 더불어민주당 기차는 독독폭폭 거리며 간다.

독독폭폭(獨毒暴暴).

독주(獨走)는 독주(毒酒)를 부르고, 폭주(暴酒)는 폭주(暴走)를 부른다는 뜻이다.

4월 선거는 사실상 더불어민주당의 독주였다. 그들의 승리는 독주(毒酒)가 되고, 독주는 점차 폭주(暴酒)가 된다. 그리고, 이제 폭주가 폭주(暴走)로 이어지려는 듯 보인다.

독독폭폭.

불안정하고 위험한 기차 소리가 들려온다.
