필리핀 정부는 비싼 수입 화석 연료에서 벗어나려고 태양광, 풍력, 바이오매스 등 정말 다양한 에너지를 발굴하고 있어요. 올해 1월에는 아로요 대통령이 '바이오연료법'까지 통과시켰죠. 벌써 카피즈 주의 깊은 산골 마을 400여 가구는 KEPCO와 정부의 도움으로 태양광 전기를 쓰며 밝은 밤을 보내고 있대요! ☀️🏠

The PNOC Alternative Fuels Corp. may introduce the use of biodiesel from algae next year! They are about to enter talks with a US-based firm engaged in algae technology on how to derive and market biodiesel from algae. PNOC-AFC president Peter Anthony A. Abaya said they'll be talking middle of next month. 🤝
The US ecotechnology company is pioneering the algae-to-biofuel technology. They have a technology that mass produces algae, extracting vegetable oil which is then refined into a cost-effective, non-polluting diesel biofuel. Plus, the byproduct can be used for animal feed or fertilizer! 🐄🌾
Why algae? It's all about speed and simplicity! Using photosynthesis, maximum exposure to sunlight, and absorption of carbon dioxide, algae reproduces super fast. ☀️
Saving the earth & making money! 💰 Algae is renewable and absorbs greenhouse gases. This removal of CO2 can generate marketable Carbon Emission Reduction (CER) credits, turning emission reductions into financial assets for the Philippines!
The government is pushing hard for alternative energy to reduce dependence on imported fuel. President Arroyo even signed the Biofuels Act of 2006! Already in Capiz, about 400 homes in remote mountains are getting energy from the sun using solar panels, thanks to a joint project by the Dept of Energy, KEPCO, and local governments. ☀️🏠
